About Aromatherapy Aromatherapy History
Aromatherapy is an ancient form of therapy used for thousands of years, based on the use of plant and flower essences to promote healing and wellness to the mind, body and spirit.
In ancient times people discovered by chance, that the plants, berries and roots they ate for food sometimes made sick people feel better. They also discovered that by burning certain plants in camp fires, the smoke produced ,when inhaled, relaxed, uplifted and enhanced their mood.

This led to experimentation which revealed amazing healing properties of certain plants when their juices were applied to wounds.
The ancient Egyptians and Romans used plants and herbs for religious, medicinal and cosmetic purposes, as well as embalming and preserving.
A great advantage in the use of Aromatherapy is the many ways the oils can be used. These include hot or cold compress, inhalation, massage, aromatic baths or mixed with base creams in skin care.
Aromatherapy oils are absorbed through the skin and into the blood stream in massage, compress, aromatic baths and skin preparations but also a certain amount of these oils will be inhaled during their application. The smell alone can have an effect on the mind and as a result also on the body. Inhaling the oils also has a direct result on the body as the oils are inhaled into the lungs and directly into the blood stream.
Nowadays, Aromatherapy is growing hugely in popularity due to the amazing results achieved when used in complement with orthodox medicine, skin care and general wellness. |
